Your Favorite Enemies: And If I Was To Die In The Morning…Would I Still Be Sleeping With You 2007 Hopeful Tragedy Records

Finally, it’s arrived: A band whose members are more focused on the message they are promoting to the world than on becoming famous rock stars, even though one day they most definitely will. This is something I, and many others, have been looking to for years, and now we finally have it.
Your Favorite Enemies, a band hailing from Montreal, has just released its five-song EP, And If I Was To Die In The Morning…Would I Still Be Sleeping With You. Before I continue, I just need to say this: I LOVE IT. I really do. Track after track, YFE grabs your attention and keeps you reeled in until the very last note.
“Open Your Eyes,” the first track on the CD, is a song that screams for change. It can be broken down into many different aspects of change by each person who listens to it, whether that is change of thought, judgement, hatred or life; however, in the end, we all need to realize that we are all the same. We are all human beings on this planet called “Earth” and that makes us all the same.
The next track, “Midnight’s Crashing,” is one to which we can all relate; it’s our personal escape at the end of any day or night. One we hope will make us feel better and allow us to escape into faith, sports, alcohol, drugs or the warmth or touch of another person.
Track three, “Little Sister,” is difficult to summarize in words. I’ve read vocalist Alex Foster’s account of the story behind the meaning of this song on the band’s MySpace blog, but it would be an injustice for me to attempt to summarize someone else’s experience into words for you. I suggest reading that blog entry while listening to the track. All I can say is that it’s sadly inspiring to want to make a difference in someone else’s life.
“Hold Me Tight” is a beautifully arranged slower song about a lost love, ruined by personal demons, that just isn’t coming back in spite of best efforts. “Some shadows are simply to fight/I wished you’d understand.”
The last song on this amazing EP, “Left Behind,” is a fight song about belief, being your own person and making your decisions based on everything in which you/I/we believe. It’s about not listening to or abiding by what others tell us, it’s about being your own person, with your own mind.
This incredibly beautiful EP has moved me in so many different ways. After one listen you can feel the passion put into this masterpiece. Every note, instrument and voice is brought together by Foster, Miss Isabel (Vocals), Jeff Beaulieu (Guitar), Sef Lemelin (Guitar), Ben Lemelin (Bass) and Charles Allicie (Drums). Everyone should listen to it. You never know; it may just change your life.
