2006-08-06 - Sneaky Dee’s - Royal School Series

By: Lidia Vila

The Royal School Series is a band made up of members of now-defunct bands Winter Equinox and Low Frequency, Pilot, as well as a solo project called Tenth of May. One might expect awesomeness from a group salvaged from such wreckage, and The Royal School Series does not disappoint. The music was fantastic, anticipation hung in the air, and the tightly spring-coiled instruments brought the audience to highs and lows, always wondering which direction the music would turn next.

Drummer Brad Weber gave the skins a continuous royal beating while lead vocalist J.A.G tried to create texture with his voice over the melodious ambiance – “tried to” being the operative words. Though J.A.G’s vocals are well intended, they aren’t suitable for the songs created and they don’t really add to the music. In fact, they’re distracting. With their brand of experimental free flowing music, The Royal School Series could easily add a dedicated vocalist to their group and allow J.A.G to focus on instrument playing.

Given more time to develop The Royal School Series could be the alpha male in a pack of indie rock bands waiting anxiously for a leader to step forth.
