March 27, 2008 The Craft Economy @ The Supermarket
By: Lidia Vila
For a band that formed based on a dare, The Craft Economy has been going strong, playing a multitude of venues in and around Toronto. Since we last reviewed the band they’ve played more showcases in and around Toronto, and have now added Keith Hamilton’s Pitter Patter Festival to the list. This Toronto based sextuplet has solid harmonies, rhythms and the odd synchronized dancing between lead vocalists Linda and Konstantine. The Craft Economy is an infectious, 80’s New Wave inspired, body shakin’ dance party. In true unified band fashion, they all wore red shirts with white lettering spelling out Dungeons and Dragons monsters: Manticore, Merman, Lurker Above, Owlbear, Chimera, and Centaur.
Before playing “Drag-on”, lead male vocalist Konstantine shouted, “Any D&D fans? I’m dedicating this next song to Gary Gygax, we play D&D all the time.” Scott then proceeded to shred on his guitar, Bryan Adams style circa 1985. Yes, the passion is there folks, and it’s all wrapped in a harmonious plastic neon bow.
See The Craft Economy, they are a rip roaring dance fueled time; just like L’Oreal, they’re worth it.
Set list: “Lives of…”, “Until it Squeaks”, “Drag-on”, “Kissing Song”, “Ok Ciao Bye”, “Tonic”, “Colpoy’s Bay”, “The Crash”, “Menergy”, ”Shit on Your Face”, and “Big Time Spaghetti”.
Yes, they are worth it! Great review.
