Interview: Shitt Hottt August 2008

Members of Shitt Hottt were kind enough to answer questions via email. Unfortunately this powerhouse of a band has broken up. What you are about to read could quite possibly be their last interview ever posted.
September 11, 2008 at the Horseshoe will be your last show ever, what happened? What projects will you pursue after?
We just decided it was time! We can’t all commit to the same schedule, so we’re throwing in the towel before we REALLY started to suck. When all of us aren’t on the same page, it’s hard to be in any sort of relationship. We were friends before we started Shitt Hottt, and being friends is WAY more important than being in a stupid band, so there you go.
We’re all taking a little time to figure out what we want to do next. Michelle is playing in a doom metal band - Black Elm, and Ryan is playing in The Sour Notes. Both of them have started another pop garage thing: The Beestings.
What was the best show you ever played?
SOOOOOO many. Our CD release party is memorable, due to extreme inebriation. Sarah destroyed Ryan’s bass amp, and Ryan doesn’t remember playing at all. Everyone had a good time (well…everyone that matters, anyways) and when we woke up - we discovered that we’d made enough cash at the door to pay for the recording studio time.
We have a small, hardcore bunch of friends who come to see all our shows, and they make it way more fun than 300 cranky indie dullards. We’d rather play a tiny bar with 5 of our dancing/heckling/singing-along friends than a huge room full of bored-looking people.
What do you say to emerging musicians?
Nothing, really. Just do whatever. Don’t touch our gear or drink tickets.
What’s your take on bands that just blow up?
We like it when things blow up. If it’s other bands, all the better.
The name of your album is, “Are you there God, it’s me Shitt Hottt“, which one of you is the Judy Blume fan?
ALL OF US. Actually, Ryan came up with the name. He still has a dog-eared copy of “Tales Of A Fourth-Grade Nothing” on his nightstand.
Would you do it all over again?
Yeah of course! We started the band as a joke. None of us could play our instruments, so we had to learn with each other. It was “the first band” for everyone. Kinda like the first boyfriend or girlfriend. We’ve done more than most bands we know; played some crazy shows, put out a record (soon to be two), learned some valuable lessons about human nature and drank lots of free booze.
Our only regret is that we still can’t play our instruments.

August 11th, 2008 at 9:24 pmI won’t lie. I’m dissapointed and slightly upset that Shitt Hottt have called it quits. It’s hard for me to understand their reasoning…. music is ALWAYS number one. I wasn’t exaggerating when I said that Shitt Hottt was one of the last great bands I have heard in a long time. But that’s just me.
